My problem is with noise transfer from the first floor to the second floor at our shore house condo.  The builder used minimum code construction...second floor down:
  • hardwood floors
  • 5/8" sub flooring on 10" joist
  • 3" of insulation
  • Resilient track
  • 5/8" sheet rock
The noise transfer from the first floor (which has wood floors as well)to the second is high...voices (at a moderate level), moving chairs, foots steps, etc.  We are unwilling to take down the existing ceiling, so we plan to apply a 5/8" or 1" sheet from manufactures of sound proof boards.... supress products or quiet solutions.  We want to be cost prudent, however want the desire effects of not hearing noise from the first floor.  How would your product help?  Do you have advise?
Thanks

Your goals should include lining your common assembly with additional density and force a break in the construction of the surfaces.   Start by applying dB-Bloc direct to your ceiling, then anchor your strip system into place, then your drywall layer.   dB-Bloc removes your need for pre-engineered drywall, and backs the dead air pocket, helping to force more of a collapse in your vibrations.   Some clients like to double drywall, with GreenGlue in between, which will further enhance your treatment.   But the weight of dB-Bloc should be your starting point.    The treatment is demo'd online at http://www.eSoundproof.com
